army marriage laws
Army girlfriend with a question….?

My boyfriend recently left for Basic Training and I’ve been very supportive. I’ve been sending him pictures and letters Monday through Saturday every day. He writes me more letters than he writes his mom and when he calls, I’m usually the first one he talks to. I’m starting to feel like she’s beginning to resent me for it. She’ll ask me questions like, “How are you today?” And if I say, “A little better today,” she’ll say, “Well, I’ve been crying all day. I miss him soo much!” It’s like she’s insinuating I should be at home bawling my eyes out constantly or something. I miss him so much, too, but I doubt he’d want me doing that all the time. I’m not trying to compete with her. I know a mother’s love for her son is strong and unbreakable, but my love for him is strong and unbreakable, too, but in a different way. He and I have been talking about marriage, but I’m a little wary. We’ll this keep up if she becomes my mother-in-law? I really do love him very much. How do I deal with this?

I got tired of this sort of thing when my husband was going through training (and even now, when he’s deployed). I just avoid talking to my MIL about it, if I can. I evade her questions. He calls them about once a week and me almost every day. I always just tell her that he’s been busy and that if I get the phone calls, they’re always short. It works for me..
